Front end developer jobs

05/03/2016 by Phil Shackleton

We are expanding our team again and we’re looking for top digital talent to fill a few front end developer positions.

Working with clients including the NHS, University of Birmingham and North Yorkshire Police. We use user-centred design to untangle complex problems and simplify solutions. We are looking for talented and passionate people who are excited by the challenge of developing digital public services. If you’re a front end developer with at least 1 years agency experience who strives for the cutting edge technology then Mixd are for you.

Remote or office based?

This is a full time position and you’re free to work from any location in the UK that makes you happy and truly inspires you. Some choose to work at home from time to time, while others are permanent remote workers. We’ve had people move both ways: remote people deciding to come in to the office, and people in the office deciding to go remote. The key, for us, is offering both and helping people decide which is best for them. Our offices are in the centre of Harrogate, just a short walk from Harrogate train station. It’s a fantastic place to work that is easily commutable from Leeds, Bradford or York. We are a small agency with a ‘hands-on’ attitude which means you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of project work. You’ll be working with some exciting clients including the NHS and businesses in the leisure and tourism industries. We organise regular social events and an annual Mixd Adventure which have seen the team swinging from trees and abseiling down waterfalls!

What you’ll get

In addition to being rewarded with a competitive salary based on your experience, you’ll benefit from:

  • Salary £22k – £35k
  • Flexible working hours
  • Work remotely from anywhere in the UK or from our stylish Harrogate offices
  • 25 days holiday & bank holidays (plus up to 5 extra days per year, the longer you stay with us)
  • Monthly breakfasts and free fruit in the office
  • Code Fridays – time to think, explore, prototype, whatever… every Friday afternoon
  • Free hosting for your personal projects
  • Bonuses and rewards for excellent work/lead generation
  • Employee referral bonus scheme
  • Your own training budget (time and money) for conferences

We’ll set you up with a Retina MacBook Pro and monitor combo plus any software you need. If you enjoy being active, we offer an allowance for gym membership or other fitness activities. We also offer a tax-free Cycle to Work scheme. All of this helps to make Mixd an amazing place to work, but perhaps the most important reason to check us out is that it’s fun! The people are great and while we work hard for our clients, we also have a good time doing it.

The person we are looking for will have

  • Strong skills in hand-coded HTML5 and CSS3
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of responsive design techniques
  • Skills in working with WordPress for use as a CMS
  • Understanding of progressive enhancement and modern approaches to browser support
  • Experience with Sass for CSS-preprocessing
  • Skills working with JavaScript
  • Experience in version control via Git/Github

Skills for more brownie points

  • Understanding of object-orientated CSS and BEM notation
  • Obsessive (bordering OCD) when it comes to clean, efficient code
  • Experience with PHP
  • Creative design & illustration skills
  • Experience with server administration and deployment – particularly Capistrano
  • Experience of other open source CMS applications
  • Above all, you live and breathe technology, experiment at home/work and share your knowledge and experience with the wider community (via blogging/Github etc).

The role also gives the opportunity to branch out into various other aspects of the business, depending on Mixd’s needs and your own personal aspirations.
