Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope you all made it through with full bellies and minimal hangovers.

We had a fantastic 2016, filled with a variety of new clients, responsive designs and happy memories. It’s going to be hard to try summarise such a hectic year, so here goes.

In the first quarter, we launched 5 new sites spanning across the NHS, Education and Health sectors. United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULH), University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) and Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG). UHSM and ULH provided perfect opportunities to use our expertise in responsive design to create user friendly, fully accessible web experiences for wide target audiences. RCOG brought us a new challenge in creating a clean site that presented heavy medical based data in an approachable, friendly way. The successful launch of Cygnet Health Care led to the beginning of a strong relationship between Cygnet and Mixd, as well as the production of two further sites, Cygnet Jobs and Cygnet Nursing homes.

In January, we held our annual Work in the Web workshop, providing 12 select students the opportunity to hear guest talks from the likes of Harry Roberts and Dan Edwards. Work in the Web 2016 was a huge success, leading to two placement students joining us in the Autumn.

A fantastic lunch provided by Littlebreads for the Work in the Web students of 2016.

Last but not least, Jim – our most recent member of the team – joined us at the beginning of March. Jim has brought us a wealth of experience spanning years of Front-End development and (more interestingly) specialist Kung Fu moves. Needless to say, we all feel like Ninjas now!

The second quarter of the year was no let up. Another 6 sites were launched, including one of our biggest for North Yorkshire Police (NYP). Working with a local client was a great experience, again allowing us to showcase our knowledge of responsive development and UX.

In August, Alex joined us for the next year, alongside Ed and Will on placement from Leeds Beckett University. We have tasked her with kickstarting our social media channels, so be sure to check out what we’re up to on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

September saw Jason and Emily attend HybridConf in Berlin. Despite Emily ending up at the wrong end of town (I’ll save that story for another blog post!), both had a great time and brought back a wealth of knowledge to share with the team. This wasn’t the only conference we attended this year – in May, Phil and Luke travelled to Dusseldorf for Beyond Tellerrand, Erin headed to London for Agile in the City and Emily became a Creative Ninja.

October was the month of the annual Mixd Adventure! We ventured over to the Lakes and tackled Cat Bells. One family Mexican-themed night and a few bottles of gin later, we were back to work launching site refreshes (More Mountain), and brand new projects, including a site for the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN), InSiGHT and St Mark’s Foundation.

We had a great time tackling Cat Bells in the Lake District.

November saw the start of our meeting-room makeover, with a new whiteboard and corked walls full of wireframes, helping our clients to really understand the processes we take to create the best user journeys for their websites. This is only but the start of a complete office spruce up, so watch this space!

And so we find ourselves back in January but in a new year! 2017 is already shaping up to be a fantastic year for us with plenty of projects on the horizon. All that’s left for us to do is finish off the last few office mince pies and get cracking.

We hope you all had a fantastic break and wish everybody a Happy New Year!
