My Hey! Debut

31/01/2017 by Emily Cressey

My talk focussed on defining and noticing my bad habits when it came to my own design process and how I changed these into good ones by embracing different methods.

At the beginning of 2017 I gave myself a challenge to do more things that scare me. Luckily I was approached by the ever awesome Hey! and asked if I would like to speak at their first event of the year which I happily (nervously) agreed to. As this was the beginning of a new year I wanted to kick off things by reflecting on my past two years at Mixd and the topic of ‘habits’ sprang to mind. Going through the motions I realised how much I’ve learnt about myself over these past few years and how much I’ve benefitted from putting my process under the microscope.

My talk focussed on defining and noticing my bad habits when it came to my own design process and how I changed these into good ones by embracing different methods. I also wanted to highlight the struggles working in design and how we can all overcome them over time by being mindful in how and what we create.

I’m thankful for Hey! for giving me the opportunity to kick off 2017 off by sharing my experiences and in such a fantastic way, if you haven’t been down to a Hey! event I wholeheartedly suggest coming along to have a drink in a relaxed environment with people who love what they do.

A recording of the full talk should be up soon so keep checking the Hey! site for updates.

After braving the stage again I’m looking forward to returning to lecture at Leeds University in February to discuss team roles within a creative agency for the talented Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. Who know’s what other speaking opportunities 2017 will bring!

Here’s some Tweets I received about the talk, a massive thanks to everyone for the positive feedback:
