Carbon reduction plan

Our commitment to reducing emissions

At Mixd, we care deeply about our impact on the world around us. As a digital agency, our footprint may be small compared to some industries, but we believe every organisation has a role to play in tackling the climate crisis.

This is our first formal Carbon Reduction Plan, and it marks an important milestone for us. We’re taking our first steps in measuring, understanding, and reducing our emissions – not just to comply with best practice, but because we believe it’s the right thing to do.

Our goal this year is to lay strong foundations. We’ve set a reduction target of 5% per person, with a stretch goal of 10%, as we begin tracking and learning more about our impact. This forms part of our longer-term ambition to be net zero by 2050, or sooner if possible.

What we’ve done so far

Although this is our first year of formal planning, we’ve already started to build awareness

and take action where we can. In the last year, we have:

What we plan to do

Changes we’re making now

Travel and mileage

Although we operate as a remote-first business model, we are going to update our travel policy to encourage the use of greener transport options – such as walking, cycling, public transport, or car sharing – for work-related travel.

Office spaces

We recently reduced the size of our office space to better reflect how we work. As part of this change, we prioritised a space that is energy-efficient and aligned with strong environmental values. We’ll continue to assess the environmental impact of our workspace and look for ways to minimise it further.

Expenses and purchases

We’ll start to track and regularly review what we buy – from office supplies to services – and make more conscious decisions to reduce, reuse, and buy from sustainable sources.

Digital tools and devices

We’ll assess our digital tools and infrastructure, looking for ways to simplify, reduce usage, and embed low-carbon practices into our design and development work. We’ll also ensure that old devices are resold, recycled, or reused wherever possible.

Team behaviours (remote and hybrid working)

We aim to run a small volunteer trial to explore how individual choices can reduce emissions. Participants will aim to:

The findings will help inform future changes we can roll out more broadly.

Supporting low-carbon remote working

To encourage sustainable habits, we are looking at how we can introduce financial support for remote team members who take steps to reduce their carbon footprint. This may include support for low-carbon commuting, energy-efficient home setups, or working from shared spaces with lower environmental impact

Changes we’re planning next

Web hosting

As we host a large number of client websites, web hosting represents a significant part of our digital carbon footprint. We’re currently reviewing our hosting setup – including how and where we host – to identify opportunities to reduce emissions. This includes understanding the energy efficiency of different data centres, and exploring greener alternatives where appropriate. Planned infrastructure updates from our provider in 2025 are also expected to contribute to a lower overall footprint, but we’re not waiting on those changes alone to take action. There is more detail about our Supplier’s Commitment to Sustainability here.

Challenges further down the line

Some emissions – such as those related to energy distribution or the full lifecycle of products – are outside our immediate control. But by focusing on what we can influence, we hope to reduce our wider impact over time as well.

Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and the government’s guidance for Carbon Reduction Plans. It follows the GHG Reporting Protocol Corporate Standard and uses official UK government emission conversion factors.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in line with SECR (where applicable), and a relevant subset of Scope 3 emissions have also been included.

This plan has been reivewed and signed off by the Partners.

Signed on and behalf of Mixd.
