In the same week as their 70th birthday, the NHS announced that they were launching a new app that will put patients at the forefront of their own healthcare. It will be safe, secure and gives the patient access to their GP record.

The new app will allow patients to provide key services:

Patient centred design

At Mixd, we have been working extensively in the healthcare sector for many years.

Our recent work with Leeds West Primary Care Network has included the design and development of a framework of websites for general practices (GPs). During an initial discovery phase, we discovered that users have very specific needs when it comes to accessing healthcare services online.a. We learnt that users want to be able to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions and find their test results. After uncovering these needs, we were able to design and develop a website that was centered around them and that would also offer additional content to support self-care via direct integration with NHS Choices.

It’s great to see how NHS digital has taken a lead in giving users control over their own care and have recognised how this can now transcend into an app. With this new app users will have access to the NHS services at any time meaning that they can do what they need quickly and more efficiently, thereby easing the strain on busy GP practices.

NHS digital have indicated this new App will be available on the Android and Apple stores at the end of this year.
